13th century castle with panoramic views of the region
Mogadouro Castle, also known as the Keep Tower, is one of the most emblematic monuments in the municipality. Built in the 13th century by the Templars, this medieval tower rises majestically over the village, offering stunning panoramic views over the Transmontana landscape.
The square-plan tower is the only remaining element of the old medieval castle that protected the settlement. Its robust walls tell stories of battles and conquests that shaped the history of this border region.
Visiting Mogadouro Castle is a journey through time, discovering the secrets of the Order of the Templars and the strategic importance this fortress had in the defense of Portuguese territory.
Visit in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset over the mountains. Admission is free and the site is accessible year-round.
